Bottom line is that the larger the thermal mass, the lower the operating costs. ThermaRay’s Floor Heating System under concrete is the only true Deep Heating Thermal Mass Heating System on the market today. Hydronic/Tubing systems with 2” Styrofoam under the tubes drastically increase the operating cost because they limit the thermal mass. Tubing installers will tell you that if you don’t put insulation under the tubes, you will lose all that generated heat to the earth. If the thermostat never shut off, then it would drive it down further, but that’s not a reality.
