Radiant Floor Joist Heating (Below Subfloor):
ThermaRay’s Radiant Ceiling Heating Panels are used in the Floor Joist Heating application. The panels are wired in the same manner, but instead of being placed above the ceiling, they are installed 1-1/2” – 2” below the subfloor. Unlike the ceiling system that doesn’t typically require a heating panel in every cavity, the floor joist system should have a heating panel wherever you can stand or walk. Otherwise, you will feel where there is an empty cavity when you walk across the floor.
Heating panels do not need to be installed under permanent fixtures or appliances. Since the heating system is not in the wear surface, flooring can easily be replaced or changed out without affecting the floor heating system itself. Great for new construction or under existing floors and can be used as primary or comfort heat. USA – Floor Joist Heating Flyer

A Gentle Warmth from Below
Radiant heat like the sun travels in straight lines until it reaches something that could absorb that heat like the floor, walls, furniture, etc. and most importantly people. A good example is stepping from the shade to the sun on a cool day or taking a rock and putting it in direct sunlight. The rock will absorb the radiant rays and in turn warm the air and other objects or people.
