Design Ready Controls in Brooklyn Park, MN is saving tens of thousands of dollars per year with ThermaRay’s Thermal Mass Storage Floor Heating System installed under the concrete of their 100,000+ square foot manufacturing, warehouse and office facility. The heating system was Designed to be Ready to save them hundreds of thousands to millions over the life of the building.

Listen to a developer explain the benefits of installing a ThermaRay Thermal Mass Floor Heating System installed under the concrete as well as seeing and hearing what the product is and how it’s installed from our onsite technician.

Thermals Mass Storage Floor Heating

The ThermaRay Floor Heating System under concrete is the only true Deep Heating Thermal Mass System. The larger the Thermal Mass, the lower the operating costs. Tubing systems with 2” Styrofoam under the tubes drastically increase the operating cost because they limit the thermal mass.

Conversely, the tubing guys will tell you that if you don’t put insulation under the tubes, you will lose all that generated heat to the earth. However, the fact is it’s a matter of physics. Heat can only transfer to colder temperatures. It can’t migrate when the temperature is equal or higher than the generated temperature.

The Floor Heat Panels warm up and as heat goes away from the panel, the temperature gets lower and lower until it reaches a temperature equal to itself which is the temperature of the earth (around 54 degrees) and then it can’t travel any further and the thermostat is satisfied. Our system creates a 2’ – 2-1/2’ deep thermal mass that will release into the area above it when it is cooler than the thermal mass. Bottom Line – If you take a large rock and a small rock out of a fire, the larger rock will hold the heat longer.

Benefits

  1. Considerably less space required in mechanical room vs. hydronic (Tubing) systems
  2. Qualifies for the Off-Peak program offered by almost all the power companies in Minnesota. Most hydronic systems do not qualify, but it depends on the power supplier
  3. Typically less to install. Depends on the location, but we are usually a quarter to half the cost for installation.
  4. 35% – 70% less cost to operate vs. hydronic or forced air. Depends on the power source, but even lower operating cost than those using natural gas as a source
  5. Save approximately $2,500 on Styrofoam insulation (Materials only, not including labor). Not required for our thermal mass system, but typically associated with hydronic systems
  6. Simple Installation – Approximately 3-5 Hours for installation (2 Personnel)
  7. Healthiest Environment
  8. No Maintenance
  9. No eventual repair or replacement of parts like is associated with an hydronic system.
  10. Lowest overall lifetime cost vs. “Any” other heating system.
  11. No Noise
  12. No moving parts
  13. Unlimited control options. From simple to remote access point for entire home and up to Wi-Fi accessible from your phone
  14. Not only an Invisible heating system , but we have options so that you don’t see thermostats in any room. Very clean and aesthetically pleasing.
  15. Qualifies for up to 15 LEED Points.
  16. 45+ Year stellar track record with no failed systems

Creating one of the most comfortable and economical heating systems available, our Electric Radiant Thermal Mass Storage Heating Systems are an under-concrete slab (sometimes called “under-floor”, “in-ground” and “ground storage”) heating system installed in soil or sand under a concrete slab building foundation.

The result is that the ground underneath becomes an efficient, large mass of stored thermal energy. It’s the same principle as the earth’s core.

The system is charged (energized) when less expensive off-peak electric rates are in effect or to shift peak demand to quieter periods. The stored energy is only released when the area above it becomes cool. Otherwise the radiant heat remains where it is so there is no wasted energy.

The system is protected from mechanical harm, corrosive chemicals, and moisture. Even the most hazardous areas can be safely and economically heated.

Technology + Off-Peak Electrical Rates = Tremendous Energy Savings

Electric Radiant Thermal Mass Storage Heating Systems are perfect for basements, slab-on-grade construction, solariums and sun rooms, industrial buildings, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, aircraft maintenance hangars, malls and car and truck facilities.

Installation is fast and easy, providing warmth with no hot spots or drafts. The system is clean, creating no smoke or soot. And it doesn’t take up valuable floor space.

Ray Stoodley, Lead Electrical Engineer for Bay Newplan Group Ltd., Newfoundland, Canada worked on Melville Hospital’s Thermal Mass Storage installation.

“The Thermal Mass Storage Heating System is easy to install and well-suited to maximum demand control. Operating the system is a simple matter of turning it on in off-peak times then using the energy you store during expensive periods. We’re talking days’ worth of storage so the money you save is enormous! There’s no equivalent to the Thermal Mass Storage Heating System.”
