Premier Energy has completed the Thermal Mass floor heat installation for Otter Tail Powers Hoot Lake Solar Operations and Maintenance building. This will be Minnesota’s third-largest solar generation facility and the first utility-scale solar project for Otter Tail Power Company, the owner of this project.
ThermaRay’s Thermal Mass Floor Heating System installed by Premier Energy and Otter Electric in Otter Tail Power Company’s 50’x100′ building. (119) 277v heating panels were installed prior to sand and concrete being placed over the heating panels.
In addition, Hoot Lake’s 130,000 solar panels annually power roughly 9,000 homes with renewable energy! Construction on the $62 million dollar project began in the spring of 2022. Hoot Lake Solar joined the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) energy market on August 8th. This was following the first energy production from Hoot Lake Solar earlier in 2023. The operation’s location, the same as the retired plant, allows for a nearby transmission interconnection, and clean energy is added to the grid with a low additional investment. The Otter Tail Power Company is named after the Otter Tail River, its initial power source. OTPCO is a provider of electricity and power for residential, commercial, and industrial customers in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota with headquarters in Fergus Falls. Furthermore, the completion of Hoot Lake Solar marks a big milestone in their efforts to pursue renewable energy.
