Thermal Storage Floor Heat Panels Turn Minot Home into Blue Hawaii
It’s hard to imagine electric radiant heat panels could end winter escapes to Hawaii, but for Linda and Jim B. However, they can finally enjoy warmth and comfort on beautiful Lake Metigoshe, just north of Minot, North Dakota.
Minot is a town in North Dakota, that has a sister city in Scandinavia. Both Minot’s have something in common … cold, very cold winters.
Minot has the brand statement of “Why Not Minot?”. However, the local’s jokingly answer, “Freezin’ is the Reason.”
50 Cold Years on the Lake
Jim shared his story of those cold winters:
“Our fifty-year-old lake cabin was heated with electric baseboards and mostly a wood burning stove, because the electric could not keep up with the winters of North Dakota.
The floors in the lower level were always beyond cold and required winter wool socks and Alaskan mukluks to walk about. Two years ago, we were forced into a remodel because the cabin was in dire need of repairs.
We have been blessed with living in Hawaii part of the year, and we wanted our North Dakota permanent home to be comfortable year-round.”
Electric Radiant Heat Panels
Jim and Linda selected ThermaRay electric radiant heat panels for their heating solution.
Benefits of Thermal Mass Storage Floor Heating:
-
- Considerably less space required in mechanical room vs. hydronic (Tubing) systems
- Qualifies for the Off-Peak program offered by almost all the power companies in Minnesota. Most hydronic systems do not qualify, but it depends on the power supplier
- Typically less to install. Depends on the location, but we are usually a quarter to half the cost for installation.
- 35% – 70% less cost to operate vs. hydronic or forced air. Depends on the power source, but even lower operating cost than those using natural gas as a source
- Save exponentially on Styrofoam insulation (Materials only, not including labor). Not required for our thermal mass system, but typically associated with hydronic systems
- Simple Installation – Approximately 3-5 Hours for installation (2 Personnel)
- Healthiest Environment
- Maintenance-Free
- No eventual repair or replacement of parts like is associated with hydronic or traditional heating systems.
- Lowest overall lifetime cost vs. “Any” other heating system.
- Quiet
- No moving parts
- Unlimited control options. From simple to remote access point for entire home and up to Wi-Fi accessible from your phone
- Not only an Invisible heating system , but we have options so that you don’t see thermostats in any room. Very clean and aesthetically pleasing.
- Qualifies for up to 15 LEED Points.
- 45+ Year stellar track record with no failed systems

Hawaii in North Dakota!
It’s hard to imagine giving up winters in Hawaii, but now Jim and Linda can make that choice:
“Now my wife Linda says she can finally be warm and comfortable year round here in the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota.
We’re now warm enough to know we will eventually just stay the winters and give up Hawaii … crazy, eh?
